I'm Steve Wake

Steve Wake founded the EVM and the PMC Sigs in the Association of Project Management (APM) and was the Chairman of APM who led it to chartered status. He is now a member of the Guild of Educators, has set up a working party to develop a GCSE in Project Skills and is Chair of the British Standards Institution M/S 2 committee with responsibility for national standards in project programme and portfolio management.

He is leading the development of BS202001 Project Controls in which MOD is a participant and working closely with PsACE community harmonising estimating practice in government and its supply chain. Also he represents BSi on ISO WG12 developing an Implementation guide to EVM and is Strategy Director of the Association of Cost Engineers, helping to shape its future.

A proposed draft of BS 202001 has been published today for public consultation. The deadline for comment is 10 January 2025

If you have not yet done so, you will need to register on the review portal in order to access and comment on the draft. This should be very straightforward and not take more than a couple of minutes. 
 
When finalised this standard should be relevant for any organisation, any leader and for any value management consultant.

Christine is a global expert in Project Controls, the President of the professional body for Project Controls, holds her fellowship within Project Controls and is a Certified Professional Cost Engineer. She has almost 30 years’ experience within the profession and has lead departments with more than 200 project controls professionals. She is an advocate of apprenticeships and has been a route panel member since IFATE’s inception in 2017. She has been part of an author group for a new Project Controls book (to be launched early 2025) and the Lead Author for the Project Skills GCSE. She is the CEO of 3PCE Ltd, a project management and project controls consultancy business and is on many boards, steering groups and committees all with the purpose or promotion and protection of the Project Controls profession.

Paul is a Principal P3M Consultant at Costain who is currently supporting Network Rail. Prior to that Paul spent 32 years at BAE Systems working on a variety of significant, complex Programmes across the Air Sector and in Submarines. Paul has has worked predominantly in Project Controls roles throughout his career and is a real advocate for people in controls roles being able to make sense and articulate what their data means for the performance and outturn of their projects. Paul is also passionate about the behavioural and leadership aspects of Project Control and that leaders need to be able to accept when control people ‘speak truth to power’ and to use this to drive the correct decisions and increase the chances of project success. Paul also delivers Project Controls training for which he receives consistently excellent feedback owing to his engaging approach. Paul is married with 2 ‘children’ at University (i.e. skint) and loves poetry and music, especially Paul Lyalls and Massive Attack….

Simons last five years in LUL were as the project manager for the £600m+, 10-year Bank Station Capacity Upgrade project. The project successfully implemented LU’s novel Innovative Contractor Engagement procurement route for which he was awarded Project Professional of the Year at the UK APM Awards 2013. I completed his MSc in Project (Construction) Management at Heriot-Watt University in 1999 and in January 2019 was awarded my PhD in Construction Project Management from University College London (UCL). In 2019, he won the APM Herbert Walton Award for innovation and excellence in Doctoral research for his PhD. In March 2019 he was appointed Associate Professor in Project Management at UCL’s Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction.

Conversation Club is a broadcast series of linked discussions linked to EVA also takes place around the year. 1 hour Thursdays at 4. c.40 per annum. There is an archive of 60 recordings since October 2020. Attendees are invited to a free subscription. 1 hour CPD per broadcast.
